FAQ
WHAT IS A DETAILED OVERVIEW OF THE VESSEL?
A detailed review of the vessel is necessary for several reasons and only upon request. Basically for the purpose of evaluation: making an offer for service work, making an offer for insurance companies, the purchase / sale of vessels, etc.
A detailed overview of the vessel or its major components (propulsion, main engine, generator, watermaker, hull, electrical systems, navigation systems, etc.) always depends on its purpose. This does not represent any additional cost for the client in the case that the assessment service is done by professionals due to perform service work. If a demanding review requires more review time for a realistic evaluation and if they do not come to the realization of work, the review is charged according to expended realistic work hours if they are not otherwise edited in the price list.
WHAT DOES ROUTINE MAINTENANCE OF VESSELS INCLUDE?
Firstly, routine maintenance is always the best maintenance and secondly, it preserves the value and usability of your vessel or its major components. It includes the continuous control of all systems on the vessel including hull of the boat (hull) and the superstructure. Continuity control is at least twice a year, mostly in winter and spring. All systems on board including the superstructure can be maintained while the boat is in the water as opposed to the maintenance of the underwater part of the boat when it is out of the water to remove cluster on the hull and propulsion.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN ALL WINTER / SPRING SERVICE?
Winter service or service after season of use involves the removal of salt by rinsing the flank and the superstructure of the vessel with fresh water (to preserve geal-Coat, sealants, teak, etc.) and flushing of the engine antifreeze (Canning) who are directly or indirectly in contact with salt. Practice shows that one part of shipowners after seasonal usage remove vessel to dry dock, remove cluster of the underwater part with the high-pressure water pump, then flush salt from the outside of the vessel, so conserved all the aggregates, and covered by an awning or winter thermal foil the vessels are left on dry dock until the season starts. The other part of shipowners after seasonal usage also prepare the boat for winter desalted conservation and start a continuous or aggregate them, but they leave their boat in the sea all year-round. Maintenance of the hull is performed in the spring before seasonal usage. Both approaches require preparation for winter maintenance, and it is preservation of battery capacity and ventilation to avoid condensation of moisture, which favors the development of mold and fungi (they can really damage the interior). Spring Service or the preparation of vessels for the season depends on how well we prepare the boat for winter storage. It mainly covers; deconservation aggregates and commissioning, as required restoring the A / F paint underwater part, replacing zinc protectors and editing sides, superstructure, teak and stainless steel (cleaning, washing, polishing). All the other possible contributions (plastics, carpenter, electrician, mechanic) depend exclusively on shipowners’ wishes and for such work the best time to plan it is when vessels are not in use.
WHAT IS OSMOSIS, AND HOW TO PROTECT THE BOATS FROM OSMOSIS?
Osmosis is the process of chemical change in the composition of the fiberglass hull in contact with water. The main and only reason behind the emergence of osmosis is water residue in the process of manufacture of the hull. The bubbles are the most common warning signs, and their size varies from a few mm to about 10 cm, and filled with water they have harsh and sour smell. The best protection against osmosis is preventive in nature. As the old saying goes “prevention is better than cure”, in order to achieve this very important part of regular inspections of underwater vessel and its maintenance.
WHAT KIND OF A / F PAINT IS BEST FOR MY BOAT?
No A/F color is the best choice for every type of vessel. The best choice depends on the type of vessel (M, S) and also depends on the type of coating and its current state. It would be best to ask other boaters in your area who use their boats in a similar way as you use and consult with an expert about the current state of the A / F color and a possible change in the A/F paints.
HOW TO PROTECT THE GEAL-COAT HULL COLOR AGAINST FADING?
The best method so far is to apply coat of wax on all open-geal coat surfaces of your boat. The process of removing is a little bit slow, but when you remove it in spring, your gel-coat will be as nice and shiny as new.
WHEN TO USE A HAND AND WHEN MACHINE POLISHING?
Before polishing, it is important to finish all the rough work such as sandblasting and applying the A/F paint and prepare the boat for polishing. The preparation includes washing the entire boat, which is very important. In fact, if you take a dirty boat, you will not know which parts need to devote more attention during polishing.
A condition assessment of geal-coat is dependent manner of our polishing craft. Hand polishing is used on smaller surface defects of geal-coat or when geal-coat matts sunlight, while polishing machine is used in major damage of geal-coat and the process is performed in layers, and requires a professional approach. Whether polishing new or older boats for boating season, using different polishing methods, again depends on the geal-coat’s state.
